Solar pool heaters have dropped in price and are becoming competitive with gas and electric heat pumps for heating above ground pools. Solar pool heaters have a low operating cost because the use the sun't radiant energy to heat the water and only required electricity to operate the pumping system.
The heart of these systems are the solar panels, and this is where the sun's heat is transfered to the water. Additional items in the systems are the filter, the pump and the 3-way valve that is used to moderate temperatures.
