Heat pump pool heaters use electricity to operate the internal pump that circulates a fluid through an expansion valve that generates heat during the compression cycle of the fluid. They also use the heat of the air to increase the efficiency of the heating unit.

The repair guy came out and fixed my swimming pool heater. He told me to keep it running for the next couple of days while it breaks in. The problem is that my pool filter system is old and is a piece of crap and I have to keep restarting it. So can anybody tell me if I can turn off the pump and just let the heater run?
